Cruelty-Free Product Reviews

August 02, 2016

J.R. Watkins is a cruelty-free company that was established in 1868. Their product line boasts a wide variety that includes bath + body, home care, health, and even a line of gourmet culinary seasonings. Although J.R. Watkins is a company of many hats, one thing is certain, their products are high-quality, natural, smell lovely, and work.

J.R. Watkins' All Purpose Cleaner is no example. Formulated without harsh chemicals and instead made with ingredients including rosemary leaf oil, this all-purpose cleaner leaves counters, tile, floors, stainless steel, and even woodwork super clean. Additionally, the fresh lemon scent is refreshing without being overpowering. The All-Purpose Cleaner is also available in Aloe + Green Tea, Coconut, Grapefruit, Lavender, and White Tea + Bamboo.

Face masks are a great way to replenish and rejuvenate skin from our environment, products we use on our skin, and other factors that can negatively impact our complexion. Investing in a full-sized product can sometimes feel burdensome, as one option may work better than another. Also, it's always fun to mix it up.

Andalou Naturals recently released a line of "single use" face masks, which cater to a variety of skin types. Options include age defying, brightening, soothing, and clarifying and contain a multitude of good for you ingredients. Although they are marketed as one use, there is easily enough for multiple applications. If you like to try all different products and formulations, these masks are perfect. It's so easy to mix and match depending on your needs. The formulas are light, yet effective, and dry in about 10 minutes. Afterwards, simply remove with a damp hand towel. Skin is left feeling refreshed and envigorated.

Bath Bombs have hit the beauty and personal care scene hard in the last year, and for good reason. They are intended to create a relaxing, moisturizing, sometimes-bubbly, bathing experience filled with a lovely aroma.

Leaping Bunny certified company, Aroma Rebel Bath & Body, has created a wonderful line of bath bombs with a variety of scents. The Honey Hula bath bomb (which does not contain honey), is deliciously fragrant with a mix of pineapple, coconut, and a hint of cilantro. The scent invigorates the senses while in the bath and lightly lingers on the skin afterwards. The bath bomb creates a bubbly, green bath, which is very moisturizing. It is formulated with avocado oil, sweet almond oil, and unrefined cocoa butter, and leaves the skin soft and supple to the touch.

If you are interested in taking your bath to the next level, Aroma Rebel's line of bath bombs is filled with an array of wonderful scents and formulations. Next on my list is the Unicorn Bubble Bath Bomb, which is a combination of orange, berry, and sugared vanilla.

Let's face it. Removing makeup is a tedious task. Although there are a wide variety of makeup removers on the market, it can be difficult to find one that is safe, effective, all-natural, and cruelty-free.

Thesis Beauty has a wonderfully effective makeup remover with an oil base. The formula is very gentle and made with the beneficial ingredients of jojoba oil, sunflower oil, apricot oil, rosemary extract, sweet orange essential oil, spearmint essential oil, and rosemary essential oil. All of the ingredients are organic and gentle, which is especially important for the eye area. The scent is a lovely rosemary scent and helps to relax you after a long day. Removing makeup will never be fun, but this product makes it a more soothing and meditative experience.

Bar soap is perhaps one of the most boring products in a personal care routine. It can be difficult to shake things up and make soap fun and exciting from a company's perspective. Why mess with the norm, right? Well, sometimes it's good to deviate from the norm.

Antiquity Body Care has created a line of vegan, cruelty-free shea butter soaps in a wide variety of colors and scents, in a fun, oversized shape. Infused with essential oils including frankincense, patchouli, tea tree, lavender, coffee bean, eucalyptus, and citrus, there is a soap for nearly any preference. There is also a Blank Slate unscented soap for individuals who prefer no fragrance. The bright, vibrant colors are made with natural earth clays, mineral pigments, micas, and oxides and are all-natural. This soap is super gentle and perfect for individuals with dry or sensitive skin. Although the majority of the soaps contain essential oils, the scent is very light and not overwhelming. Not only is this soap great for people of all ages, it has the potential to make bath time more fun for kids. Both the Athena Owl (made with frankincense) and Poseidon Sea (made with lemongrass, dulse, and pink himalayan sea salt) are wonderfully gentle yet effective. In the Poseidon Seal, the addition of the pink himalayan sea salt creates the perfect gentle exfoliator. The next formulation I am looking forward to trying is the Hermes Caffeinated Coffee Bean, which also contains cocoa powder!
