Cruelty-Free Skincare to Combat the Cold

Winter's cold, dry weather has officially arrived and skin needs extra care to ensure its youth and vitality. It can be difficult to find products that live up to their claims, especially when it comes to skincare. Luckily, Kim Paschen, Leaping Bunny's Program Manager, was eager to try a variety of products from recently certified companies and share her thoughts. Check out Kim's reviews below for ideas on keeping your skin safe from the cold this winter season.

Earthwise Beauty's Magical Babassu Facial Oil
I'll admit I was a bit skeptical to put oil on my face, which has a normal to oily complexion that is still prone to breakouts. But wow, what an amazing difference this product has made. I apply at night before going to bed and let it do its thing. The result: extra velvety smooth skin, even complexion, and best of all, no more pimples. This stuff lives up to its name. Bonus: it's also great for healing scars faster and smells deliciously nutty.
Kosmatology's Goody-Goody Grapefruit Lotion Bar
Well now, this is quite something: lotion in a convenient-to-use applicator. You just roll it on! I found it to be most effective when used right out of the shower when my skin is still warm and damp. It glides on and seals all the Shea butter and olive oil in, so you really get moisturizer at its best. The grapefruit scent is light and refreshing.
Yasou Vegan Hand Cream
It's that time of year when my hands can't get enough moisture. I was really glad to discover this hand cream. The formula is rich and creamy but absorbs really quickly. It's the best of both worlds because who wants greasy residue left on their hands? This hand cream is loaded with all kinds of goodness like organic jojoba oil, coconut oil, and vitamin A (a great anti-aging/anti-oxidant) and the scent, while hard to place exactly, is quite enjoyable.

  1. What was the inspiration behind the creation of Lime Crime?
Our mission is to help girls and boys around the world to express themselves through makeup.
  2. Is there a meaning behind the name Lime Crime?
It stands for "color revolution" and coloring outside the lines. Also, lime green is my favorite color!
  3. What are some of your best sellers?
Velvetines, our touch- & smudge-proof liquid lipsticks, and Venus, the grunge eyeshadow palettes.
  4. Are all of your products vegan?
Yes, our line is 100% vegan.
  5. What is your approach when choosing product colors?
Lime Crime is known for vibrant and unique shades that "pop," but we also make awesome neutrals!

  1. What is your favorite color and makeup combination?
My signature look is winged eyeliner + bright lip. When I go out, I pop on some pinkish eyeshadow.
  2. What is unique about Lime Crime and its products?
Our message of love, acceptance, and celebrating each other's differences is what makes our brand unique. Our products are also high-performance, and used by professional makeup artists all over the world.
  3. Why is being Leaping Bunny certified important to you?
Lime Crime is proud to be certified cruelty-free by the Leaping Bunny because it's the most stringent cruelty-free certifier in the world. It's not easy to get certified, and it is so by design. Leaping Bunny requires in-depth documentation from the brands' manufacturers, which in turn ensures that all brands on the list are verifiably cruelty-free.
  4. What is something unique about you and/or Lime Crime that others may not know?
90% of our team is female and 100% is obsessed with cats! We are strong believers in adoption, many of us taking care of rescues. Lime Crime supports animal shelters and charities as part of our yearly Giving Back Plan.
