NCLA Visit

Caitlin and Kim had the opportunity to visit the NCLA headquarters while in Los Angeles for Indie Beauty Expo. What a great opportunity to meet the founders, learn more about this indie beauty brand and check out their variety of products first hand! NCLA launched in 2008 with nail products, but has recently branched out into lip products. Additionally, the brand often creates co-branded products, such as their most recently launched Barbie collection. We love the fun and playful personality of the staff, company, and products, and appreciate their dedication to being a cruelty-free company.

Indie Beauty Expo LA

On January 24th, Caitlin and Kim attended Indie Beauty Expo for the third year in a row. This event is an incredible opportunity to meet with our certified brands as well as create new connections with other companies interested in receiving our cruelty-free certification. In just one day, the Leaping Bunny team visited with close to 90 companies! About 25 Leaping Bunny certified brands were at the event including au Naturale, Bili Beauty, Céla, Comprehensive Cranium Care, GreenSky Cosmetics, Humble Brands, *hype nail, Lather, Marin Bee Pure Honey Skincare, NIU Body, Pistache Skincare, Veriphy Skincare, and VIVAIODAYS. We look forward to working with these companies in 2019 and are excited to certify the new companies we discovered.

Spotlight Interview:
Konjac Sponge Company

This month, we are so excited to interview Michele Riley, the Managing Director and Brand Founder of the Konjac Sponge Company. The Leaping Bunny team is a huge fan of konjac sponges and this brand in particular. Along with their amazing array of products, we love their fun and vibrant packaging. If you are new to konjac sponges, then this interview is especially for you! Read below to learn more about the Konjac Sponge Company, its most popular products, and, of course, what exactly is a konjac sponge.

What was the inspiration behind the creation of Konjac Sponge Company?
Our founder, Michele Riley, worked in natural baby products prior to starting The Konjac Sponge Co. She initially saw the sponge as a perfect cleansing product for babies and children, but realized this was a game changer in skincare, too. Passion for the natural effective cleansing tool meant she took to spreading the word.

What is Konjac Sponge Company’s mission?
To help make ethical beauty the industry standard. We want to share our konjac sponge love; quite simply, to spread our excitement for the products, we want everyone to try one.

What is your favorite Konjac Sponge Company's product and why?
Our Angel Cloth - It gives a totally unique cleansing experience, and it's great for using on the body too!

What is your most popular product?
Our Bamboo Charcoal sponges (designed for oily & spot prone skin) are always an international favorite! But otherwise, each country tends to have its second most popular, based on the different skin types and weather conditions for each country.

What has been the most rewarding part of creating Konjac Sponge Company?
Spreading the word and educating the world on konjac sponges. When we first set up, the word "konjac" in Google delivered a blank page. Now, “konjac” is a word most people can relate too, whether it's in food form or beauty! Our products and text are copied by many which is frustrating, but actually a massive backward compliment!

The Konjac potato or Konnyaku is a perennial plant native to Asia and can be found growing wild at very high altitudes. A totally natural food source, Konjac is 97% water, rich in mineral goodness and low in calories. The plant is naturally alkaline, which leaves skin perfectly balanced.

Who is Konjac Sponge Company target market?
Our products are suitable for anyone with skin! From those with sensitivities and concerns to those looking to pamper themselves a little; We have products suitable for all.

Are all of Konjac Sponge Company products vegan?
Yes, always.

Why is being Leaping Bunny certified important to Konjac Sponge Company?
When shopping for products ourselves, we always knew we could trust a product if we saw the Leaping Bunny symbol, so, it was a no-brainer and a natural progression to have our products certified too! We are proud that our products are cruelty-free. What better way to tell our customers than to have our brand certified!

What is something unique about Konjac Sponge Company that others may not know?
Our products are fabulous at prepping the skin for makeup; they are a kit essential for several well-known makeup artists! We also have a pet sponge, which is great for fur babies!

We love your packaging and designs! How do you come up with the inspiration?
Thank you. We are inspired by all sorts of things, but we look at anything we simply find cute, adorable, desirable. We additionally have a fabulous and talented graphic designer that works in-house, and we simply love being creative together as a team. Sometimes ideas just fly about the room! We then pack Andy off, to go create what we have thrown at him. It's amazing what we can come up with! The key for us is "fun". We want products to shout "pick me" from the shop shelf; so people then pick up the products and can educate themselves with the text.
