PRODUCT CORNER
All about the Oils
The word ‘oil’ as it relates to skin usually gets a bad rap. Countless products have been created to mattify shiny faces and eliminate T-zone troubles. But not all oil is bad! In fact, studies have shown that people with naturally oily skin tend to have less noticeable wrinkles as they get older, thanks to oil being a natural moisturizer and skin plumper. And nowadays, there are some incredibly beneficial oils on the market loaded with nourishing goodies that won’t clog pores. Check out some of the ones we have been using lately:

Azure Rose and Collagen Revitalizing Eye Serum
This eye serum has been my go-to product for the area surrounding my eyes for the better part of a year. While typical eye creams tend to not absorb very well into my skin, my skin basically drinks this product up. Over time, I have definitely noticed a difference with the disappearance of fine lines and the addition of a nice, subtle plump. The ingredient list is simple and includes rose water, hyaluronic acid, and aloe vera. I would be remiss if I did not also mention its lovely aroma; I am all about products that pique my olfactory sense. –Caitlin

J Bloom Cosmetics Grand Facial Oil
There are an incredible nine (!) different oils blended together to create this blockbuster serum. A couple drops massaged into your face is all you need for skin to feel incredible. The oils contain properties to help reduce inflammation, promote radiance and rejuvenation, and increase protection. The lovely scents of geranium and ylang-ylang provide a hint of aromatherapy. This stuff is liquid gold in a bottle!. –Kim

Lunalis Extreme Face Oil
If there is one thing that gets me excited about trying a new skincare product, it’s when I learn that it contains 24K gold flakes. Such is the case with my new favorite daily serum from Lunalis. Other star ingredients include prickly pear seed oil, pomegranate seed oil, and jojoba oil, which all work together to help defend against premature aging of skin by promoting cell renewal, fortifying skin elasticity, and keeping skin moisturized. After applying moisturizer, I take a few droplets of this product and pat it on my face and neck area; a little goes a long way. Also, how beautiful is the glass bottle? –Caitlin

Never has there been an easier way to treat the area of skin under your eyes. Application of this rich anti-aging serum is easily accomplished by a convenient roller. The serum contains 100 MG of CBD and its combination of oils makes it an amazing skin rejuvenator. I love to put it on before bed so my eyes look refreshed in the morning. This company also grows all of their own organic hemp! –Kim

One key requirement that sets the Leaping Bunny Program apart from other cruelty-free certification programs is that companies must annually recommit to upholding their promise to not conduct animal testing on any finished products, ingredients, or formulations. Why do we require this? Because product formulations change, suppliers come and go, and manufacturers develop innovative lines to meet consumer needs. But we know that compassionate consumers need to be confident that no animal testing is involved in the products they use. Companies must adhere to this part of our Standard by completing a yearly recommitment application, which enables them to add and edit any changes or updates that have occurred over the previous year with regards to their suppliers, manufacturers, brand information, and overall company procedures.
Recommitment dates vary from company to company. Each company’s annual recommitment due date is the date their previous application, original, or recommitment, was approved. We call this entire process our “rolling recommitment,” since companies are recommitting all year long at different times.
In previous years, we have posted lists of companies that did and did not recommit, after the entire year of rolling recommitments was completed. This year, we want to make things even more transparent by posting our rolling recommitment lists on our website for consumers to view, in real time, company updates for the current calendar year. If you notice that one of your favorite companies is listed under the Companies that Did Not Recommit section, please reach out to them and let them know how important it is for you that they recommit to the Leaping Bunny Program.
Important note: If you do not see your favorite Leaping Bunny certified companies on either list, it is because their recommitment may not be due yet, or they may be in the process of completing the recommitment.

COMPANY SPOTLIGHT: Juice BeautyThis month, we are excited to interview Karen Behnke, Founder of Juice Beauty. Juice Beauty has long been a staple of the cruelty-free skincare community and it’s about time we place the spotlight on this great company. Read on to learn about the inspiration behind the brand, its most popular products, and how they incorporate science into the formulation of products.
|
What was the inspiration behind the creation of Juice Beauty?
I had been in the health and wellness industry for over 20 years, super focused on nutrition and fitness. But, my love for beauty all started when I developed an interest in personal care products with my first pregnancy at age 40. Experiencing hormonal changes and the beginning of lines in my skin, I set out to find healthy skincare solutions that delivered visible results. I was astounded to learn that although the skin can absorb what is placed on it, there were very few available healthy personal care products that worked well. I wanted to create meaningful change in the beauty industry. My inspiration for the brand was born out of my desire for skin care made with clean, safe, and organic ingredients that I could use during pregnancy.
What is Juice Beauty’s mission?
Juice Beauty is the Organic Solution. We are the OG-Original Green antioxidant-rich skincare and plant-based makeup cleaning up the beauty space since 2005. We stand for vegan, cruelty-free, sustainable, certified organic ingredients, wellness, farm to beauty, and clinically validated formulas.
What is your favorite Juice Beauty product and why?
That is a hard question to answer! I have my favorite Collections! I’m past our Blemish Clearing Collection and heavily into our Age Defy products, so I rotate among our Signal Peptides (firming collection with hydrating balms), our very popular Stem Cellular Collection (age defy, anti-wrinkle), and our Green Apple Collection (age defy, hyper-pigmentation help).
What is Juice Beauty’s most popular product?
A cult favorite Juice Beauty product and one of our very first to market was our Green Apple Peel Exfoliating Mask, Full Strength. It is filled with farm to beauty ingredients like malic acid and bakuchiol, that deliver spa grade exfoliation. Our Stem Cellular Moisturizers are bestsellers because of their performance and luscious texture and aromas.
What has been the most rewarding part of creating Juice Beauty?
Well I absolutely love the creative process of developing products, starting with the science, super cool organic ingredients, working with our chemists, and our marketing and design teams. And, of course, bringing it to market is a great feeling! Given that we are a mission and values driven company, that is what really motivates me every day to further the company.
Is there a story behind your logo?
Our logo image is a luscious green drop. The drop symbolizes every drop of an antioxidant and vitamin-rich organic botanical juice feeds your skin! And we are a “green” company!
What is your favorite thing about being Leaping Bunny certified?
Leaping Bunny means quality and that we are protecting the animals as the planet, humans, and animals are completely intertwined. If you harm one, you can harm all.
What is something people don’t know about your brand?
Many folks don’t know the difference between natural and organic, for non-food consumer products. It’s similar to food! Not only is supporting organic farming better for the planet, people, and humans, but studies have shown that organically farmed ingredients can yield a much higher antioxidant level, which means greater free radical fighting capability to protect your skin! It’s a win/win!
