We start by reviewing some of our current favorite products that give us that little bit of extra pizzazz, which is much needed this winter after being at home for over 10 months. Next, we unveil a project we have been working on for well over a year that has been such a labor of love: our new website! We also share some of our most recently certified companies from the last few months of 2020, and end with an interview with Jazmine Simon, founder of the cosmetic essentials brand Jazmine Beauty. Product Corner: New Year, New You
It’s a new year and even though the pandemic continues to turn our lives upside down, it’s important to look for ways to rejuvenate as we continue to work from home, educate from home, eat at home, etc. We truly believe self-care is absolutely essential, now more than ever, and we are so excited so share some of our recent discoveries that make us feel “brand new,” even if we are still in our lounge pants and slippers.
Recently, overnight face masks have come onto the scene and they are my new obsession. Since I am very bad at scheduling time during the day to apply and then remove a face mask, the overnight option provides the perfect pampering effect without needing to schedule application and removal during the day. My current go-to is Lynsey Noel’s “Lights Out!” CBD PM Exfoliant. While I do not have inflammation or acne-prone skin, this product contains evening primrose oil and borage oil to help with those common skin issues. After using this product, my skin tone is more even and smooth, and I noticed that it also worked its magic on some little red bumps on my nose! I love how light the product is and how quickly it absorbs into my skin. The scent is very light and non-irritating, as it does not contain any fragrance. Confession: I also use it as a daily moisturizer on occasion because I like it so much! —Caitlin
There is just something about nail polish that makes me feel fancy. But how do you achieve the salon look without leaving your house? And, equally important, how can you replicate the salon experience for gels at home? Enter Madam Glam. This company specializes in vegan gel polish in a variety of hues. They also make the all-important gel remover, to help take off gel when it’s time. I was SO IMPRESSED when I tried it out. It’s a super simple process: Base Coat, Cure 30 Seconds, Color Coat #1, Cure 30 Seconds, Color Coat #2, Cure 30 Seconds, Top Coat, Cure 30 seconds. That’s it. The result is shiny nails with color that stays put in under 10 minutes. They even have a One-Step Gel that combines all the above steps into one. Removal is fairly straightforward; just a few swipes of the gel remover, a 5-minute wait, and it peels off. —Kim
Looking to refresh your skincare routine? Head on over to Nuria Beauty! I am absolutely obsessed with their lightweight formulas and so impressed by how smooth and glowing my skin is since I started using their products. Take the Defend Gentle Exfoliator. It is incredible. The gentle formula of Ginkgo and Lactic Acid work together to remove dead skin cells as the old, outermost layer can be seen coming off as you massage it into your skin. The Defend Triple Action Eye Cream is amazing for dark circles and fine lines as mulberry root and ginseng work miracles. And finally, the super lightweight Defend Overnight Recovery Cream is a wonderfully hydrating creamy gel formula that absorbs quickly and works to rid the face of dead skin and toxins while you sleep. Everything is vegan and the company is women-owned. —Kim
The days of walking into the office with a fun new lip color have been on hiatus for over 10 months now, but I still enjoy the way I look with a little something on my lips. Add to the fact that I am spending as much time as possible outdoors, even in these cold months, my lips can definitely use some protection from the sun. Luckily, I have Suntegrity’s lip gloss to keep my lips hydrated and protected with SPF 25. My current go-to is Summer Fling, a sheer neutral light pink, which is a touch lighter than my lips, but blends in really well. Also, I prefer anything that makes me feel like summer is around the corner. Bonus: they are vegan! —Caitlin

Company Spotlight: Jazmine Beauty
This month, we are excited to interview Jazmine Simon, founder of Jazmine Beauty, a lovely, highly curated collection of cosmetic essentials. Please read below to learn how the diagnosis of an autoimmune disease inspired Jazmine Beauty, the brand’s efforts to be sustainable, and its unique partnership with Orange County’s only academic health system.
What was the inspiration behind the creation of Jazmine Beauty?
Born and raised in Southern California, my passion for all things beauty came at a young age. My parents have been in the beauty industry for over 20 years now and I’ve always been surrounded by the wonderful world of makeup and skincare. After being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 15, I wanted to take control of my health by creating products that would nourish my skin while supporting a greater cause. Together, both of my passions translated into the brand we know today, Jazmine Beauty!
What is Jazmine Beauty’s mission?
Our mission is to bring safe and sustainable products in the hands of beauty beginners and enthusiasts while educating and supporting a greater cause. We want to encourage our community to support something bigger and actually see an impact. By being transparent about our journey and partnership, everyone can have an inside look on how their purchase is directly supporting the diabetes community.
Can you talk about how your diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes influenced your creation of Jazmine Beauty?
Being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes really impacted me and my family. It was really hard to stay positive knowing my entire world has just changed. Jazmine Beauty was created to inspire a positive outlet in hopes to spread awareness and support others who are also going through the same thing as me.
What efforts do you take to be a sustainable brand?
Growing up around my parents’ business (beauty packaging), I became very aware of the different ways brands can take their packaging to a sustainable level. When I started Jazmine Beauty, I wanted to use my knowledge to showcase sustainable packaging through 100% recycled materials and refillable packaging options. We are always looking at new and innovative ways to become more sustainable.
What is your favorite Jazmine Beauty product and why?
It’s so hard to pick just one! Right now, I am really loving our Illuminating Highlighter Trio. I use it to highlight but also on my eyes for a shimmery smokey eye to dress up my look, even when wearing a mask! The formula is buildable so you can easily create a subtle look or something more intense.
What is Jazmine Beauty’s most popular product?
Our Skin Tint is a fan favorite! Most foundations and BB Creams on the market have toxic and harmful ingredients in them but our Skin Tint is strictly made with clean ingredients. We also formulated our Skin Tint with skincare properties to protect, strengthen, and hydrate your skin.
What has been the most rewarding part of creating Jazmine Beauty?
Being that Jazmine Beauty is built on creating awareness and support around diabetes, I find it most rewarding to connect with the diabetes community and those dealing with other illnesses. We are working on expanding our partnership with UCI Health to create virtual support groups and private communities to connect with each other in a positive and supportive environment.
Are all of Jazmine Beauty’s products vegan?
Yes! Our existing cosmetic product range including Skin Tint, Illuminating Highlighter Trio, and Lip Trio are vegan.
Why is being Leaping Bunny certified important to Jazmine Beauty?
The Leaping Bunny Program has always been a resource for me when shopping for cruelty-free brands. Many brands can call themselves “cruelty-free” but it is very important to be certified under an organization based on factual data. I have a strong passion for animals and being a cruelty-free brand was a no brainer for Jazmine Beauty. I am so happy to be a part of this community!
What is something unique about Jazmine Beauty that others may not know?
A strong part of our brand is our cause, but many may not know the extensive effort we put into our partnership with UCI Health. This year we are developing Glucose Testing Kits for those diagnosed with diabetes in an effort to support their journey and be a part of our community. We will be sharing more information on this partnership, so stay tuned and connect with us on Instagram (@JazmineBeauty_) to learn more!
