Lastly, we interview one of our long-time certified and trusted brands, Seventh Generation. Don’t forget to check out our most recently certified companies list, too!
What’s in a name?
One of the most interesting parts of certifying so many amazing companies is seeing individuals’ creativity and originality come to fruition. We’ve hand selected a few of our long admired brands that really took their imagination to the next level to create adored products with unique monikers that include, you guessed it, numbers!
Flora 1761 is one of my faves, so of course it comes to mind if I'm asked about one of our certified brands associated with a number. Flora offers quite an array of beautiful nail lacquers that are cruelty-free, 8-free, and vegan. Each of these lovely colors has a botanical inspiration behind it, and aptly named to reflect that. We can't say enough about the quality of the polishes, either. I know firsthand that despite my busy agenda, this lacquer rises to the challenge. Flora keeps us on our pedicured toes with seasonal releases throughout the year. Our current favorites include the recently launched Bird of Paradise and Hibiscus, which are both bright, cheerful colors for the end of summer and transition into fall. Fun Fact: The influence behind Flora's full name is Flora Danica- a major milestone in the history of European botany, whose documentation began in 1761. – Maria

If there was an award for a Leaping Bunny certified company with a unique, number heavy name, TO112 would definitely be in the running for winner. Certified since 2013, the name is a combination of TO, which are the initials for tamanu oil, the ingredient at the heart of all of its formulations, and 112, the first three letters of the Fibonacci Sequence. This combination of letters and numbers fuses together science and nature working together in harmony. TO112’s products are beautifully branded and provide a wide range of salon-quality haircare and body products. Using TO112 creates a spa-like experience, as they are extremely luxurious and smell heavenly. I love using the shampoo and conditioner for dry hair, which has a lovely, light scent of clementine ginger, and their collagen mask when I need to give my hair a little bit of extra love. Their anti-breakage detangler, ultimate hair cream, and superior blowout mist work in harmony to help create your own perfect blowout from home- no salon needed! – Caitlin

Company Spotlight: Seventh Generation
This month, we are so honored to interview Liezl Cosentino, Media and Communications Team Member of one of our very long-time certified brands, Seventh Generation. Seventh Generation is synonymous with cruelty-free, effective, and widely distributed products that consumers can trust. From dishwashing tablets to baby wipes, this brand has got your daily essentials covered. Getting back to basics, we are so interested to learn about the inspiration behind the brand, its name origins, and how it has evolved over the years. Read on!
What was the inspiration behind the creation of Seventh Generation? Our inspiration was to transform the cleaning industry with renewable, biobased products that work great in your home and nurture people and planet today and for generations to come. We’ve always believed that business can (and should!) be a force for good in the world.
What is Seventh Generation’s mission? For over thirty-five years, we’ve been on a mission to build a more sustainable and more equitable world for the next seven generations. Our mission is our heartbeat; it’s in everything we do.
Is there a story behind the name of your company? Our name is inspired by an ancient Iroquois philosophy that “in our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.” This credo guides us in every product we make and every action we take. It inspires our belief in a seventh generation to come.
What efforts do you take to be a sustainable company? From super-concentrated products that help reduce plastic and water to our biobased formulas that harness the cleaning power of plants, to championing climate activists, we believe in using our voice and business to build a healthier, more sustainable future.
What is your favorite Seventh Generation product and why? Lately, I can’t get enough of our Foaming Dish Spray because it makes hand washing my dishes a breeze. Made with a Safer Choice Certified formula, it leaves nothing behind but clean dishes. And with 3 powerful grease fighters, it quickly breaks down tough messes—so I don’t have to!
What is Seventh Generation’s most popular product/product line? Our EasyDose laundry detergent! It has a powerful biobased formula (98% USDA Certified Biobased!) that tackles serious stains, and the packaging has an innovative auto-dosing cap that gives you the perfect amount of detergent every time. There’s really nothing else like it!
What has been the most rewarding part of working for Seventh Generation? Every day, I love coming to work and helping grow our mission to build a healthier future. At Seventh Generation, we create products that make lives better for families and help care for future generations. And we use our business to speak up and speak out on important issues like climate change and how it affects our most vulnerable families and communities. It’s amazing to be part of something so meaningful.
What has been the most surprising part of working for Seventh Generation? The most surprising part of working for Seventh Generation has been connecting with consumers and seeing just how many people are searching for safe, effective solutions for their homes. People crave connection, and they want to support brands that are making a positive impact on the world.
What are some ways Seventh Generation has changed as a company over the years? One of the biggest ways we’ve changed over the years is the increased sustainability of our products and packaging. For example, because our EasyDose laundry detergent comes in a highly concentrated formula, it uses 60% less plastic, 50% less water, and is 75% lighter when compared to our 90 fl oz detergent bottle. We also recently redesigned our Dishwasher Detergent Packs so they’re now available in 90% plastic free packaging! As a company, we keep evolving so that we can fulfill our mission to build a healthier world.
Why is being Leaping Bunny certified important to Seventh Generation? Being Leaping Bunny certified means so much to us. We design our products to be safe for people, their homes, their pets, and the environment, and we don't believe any animal should be harmed in the process of making the products you use to create a clean and healthy home.
What is something unique about Seventh Generation that consumers may not know? That we were founded in Vermont and that most of our team still works here in our Burlington headquarters on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain. Vermont embodies so much of what we value: passionate communities that look out for each other, lush natural landscapes that remind us what’s at stake in protecting our planet, and a shared commitment to building a healthier, more equitable future.
